Remember That... Good Common Sense is the Best Self-Defense!

1

If the attacker wants you and not your property; scream, scream, scream! No matter what the assailant says, even if he’s armed, make all the noise you can. Fight! Kick, bite scratch, pinch and use any available objects as a weapon…. Keys, pins, cell phones, spiked heels, etc.

You must make this commitment to yourself:

“I will give you my purse, money and jewelry, but I will not give you my life. You may take my life, but I will fight you with every breath in me, and if I must take your life to survive, I WILL SURVIVE!!

Be Determined to Survive!

  • The best defense is not to be there when trouble starts.
  • Your ability to recognize possible dangers can help you avoid them.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings and suspicious people.
  • Trust your instincts. If something about the situation doesn't feel right, don't go there!
  • Don't take unnecessary chances.
  • Sometimes you must give yourself permission to be rude.
  • Don't be afraid to make a scene if a situation makes you feel uncomfortable.
  • Never resist an armed assailant who only wants your personal property. However, if the assailant wants you and not just your property, fight back with everything in you!
  • Awareness is essential. Your ability to recognize possible dangers can help you avoid them.
  • If assaulted, your best defense is to escape, not to teach the assailant a lesson.
  • Never fight or resist an armed assailant with a weapon who only wants your property. Material things can always be replaced!
  • Use fear to your advantage! The assailant expects you to be afraid, but not to resist or fight back.
  • Only you can decide how and when to resist an assailant and since every situation is different, no one can second guess you.
  • Ultimately, you and you alone are responsible for your safety!

Accept the reality of danger. Know that  assaults  including rape can happen to ANYONE, ANYTIME and ANYWHERE!

Personal Safety Tips:

  • Never trust a stranger or pick up hitchhikers.
  • If a repair person or stranger has to be in your home, check identification through door viewer, and make sure you are not alone.
  • Always park in well lit, crowded areas close as possible to your destination. If necessary relocate your car closer to your work site before it gets dark.
  • Always avoid shortcuts through alleys, parks, back-streets etc.
  • Always have keys in hand and watch your back before entering your home or car.
  • Always check the back of seat before getting into your car. Lock all doors as soon as you get in.
  • If you have a garage, make sure the door is down before entering or exiting your car.
  • If someone gets into your car, get out. If you can’t get out, cause an accident.
  • If someone is following your vehicle, drive to a crowded area or police station.
  • If you are held up, listen to the robber’s demands. If he wants money or property, comply without hesitation or conversation.
  • Always make sure your home is secured at night.
  • Try to shop and gas your vehicle during daylight hours when possible.
